Male Breast Reduction from Dr. Cohen
I have performed male breast reduction in the Phoenix - Scottsdale area for men with varying degrees of gynecomastia. And while the causes and physical manifestations of this condition are different for each person, the common factor is the self-consciousness that they feel as a result. Many of my patients – some of whom come from across the country for surgery – describe being teased or feeling embarrassed since the development of their gynecomastia. I particularly enjoy this procedure because it can transform a patient's quality of life as well as their appearance.
Due to my extensive training with breast procedures, I have a detailed level of understanding of the different structures of the breast/chest area. This procedure generally involves a combination of both power-assisted liposuction and direct glandular tissue removal via a small incision at the edge of the lower areola. There are many nuances that must be taken into account in order to achieve the best possible result.
I carefully evaluate each male breast reduction patient because there are several factors involved in choosing the best surgical approach, including:
- Amount of excess tissue
- Type of tissue present
- Degree of stretched skin
- Shape/position of the areolas
If the excess volume is mainly the result of localized fat, liposuction may be an effective solution for re-contouring the chest. If dense, firm breast tissue is present, I will use a discreet incision along the lower border of the areola to remove the excess tissue and re-shape the chest. Only in rare cases of significantly large breasts or excessively stretched skin or areolas are more extensive incisions required.
Following this procedure, men typically experience dramatic changes in their confidence and their lifestyle. Many of these men haven't gone swimming, jogging, or enjoyed a day at the beach for years. Others have hidden beneath layers of baggy clothing or even wrapped their chest daily in a tight bandage. The physical and emotional freedom these men feel after gynecomastia correction makes this a very rewarding procedure.
