Dr. Cohen's Biography

Dr. Robert Cohen

I returned to my hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona in 2005 after fourteen years of education and advanced training in some of the nation's most prestigious institutions. After graduating cum laude from Phoenix Country Day School, I attended top-ranked Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to my premedical studies, I earned a double major in biology and philosophy, while graduating in the top 12% of my class. I received my medical training at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana – a program famous for its intense hands-on training of medical students. I was awarded honors in surgery, and published multiple research papers, including one in the most prestigious plastic surgery journal: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

After medical school, I was accepted into the highly regarded plastic and reconstructive surgery program at Dartmouth (Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH). Under the guidance of world-renowned plastic surgeons and educators, including section chief Dr. Carolyn Kerrigan, I completed my plastic surgery training with top commendations from faculty, co-workers, and patients. During this time, I published a textbook chapter on technology and robotics in plastic surgery. As Chief Resident, I also traveled to North Vietnam on a three-week medical mission to repair cleft lips and palates in the children of Ha Nam province.

Although eligible to begin my career after completing my training at Dartmouth, I elected to gain additional technical training in aesthetic surgery. I was awarded a highly competitive cosmetic surgery fellowship with internationally recognized plastic surgeon, Dr. W. Grant Stevens in Marina Del Rey, California. In addition to being selected over my competition, I was the first person ever offered a full-year fellowship with Dr. Stevens. Under the guidance of Dr. Stevens, I honed my surgical skills in all areas of cosmetic and laser surgery, particularly advanced approaches to breast enhancement.

In addition to becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, I have published multiple major plastic surgery papers in the leading journals of my specialty including the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. I have also presented my research in cosmetic surgery to hundreds of plastic surgeons at global conferences including the meetings of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

I balance my advanced training in plastic surgery with my many activities outside of medicine. I am an avid outdoorsman, skier and scuba diver, and have explored much of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Central America and the Middle East. I also enjoy reading, drawing, and spending quality time with my wife and daughter.
